Is Kolten Wong the latest success story for the Los Angeles Dodgers and their incredible ability to rejuvenate players' careers?

The former Gold Glover just finished a stint with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers. In his brief stay, Wong went 7-for-13 at the plate, highlighted by a 413-foot home run. Now, Wong is expected to join LA on Friday when active rosters can expand from 26 to 28 players. The team is taking on the Atlanta Braves in a four-game series this week.

It wasn't even a month ago that no Major League Baseball team wanted Wong on their roster. Well, at least not at the price he would've come at. With the remainder of his $10 million salary still owed to him, no team claimed Wong when the Seattle Mariners designated the second baseman for assignment on August 1st.

On August 18th, the Dodgers signed Wong to a minor league contract. They sent him to their Camelback Ranch facility in Glendale, Arizona. There, coaches got to work on Wong and his approach to hitting, hoping to unlock some of the potential that made him a former top-100 prospect in all of baseball.

Whatever Wong and the staff worked on, the results were immediate. The performance obviously caught the eyes of the major league club.

If nothing else, Wong should be able to provide an upgrade on the Dodgers' defense at second base. The team has struggled to find a reliable option so far this season, cycling through do-it-all star Mookie Betts, as well as recent additions Kiké Hernandez and Amed Rosario.

Wong won Gold Gloves in 2019 and 2020 mainly as a second baseman, so his glove might be the main attraction for the Dodgers, with anything he provides at the plate a mere bonus.

Consider that the Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers will be splitting the $10 million owed to Wong. (The Brewers signed Wong to a two-year, $18 million contract in 2021 and exercised an option for the 2023 season before trading him to the Mariners.) It's an absolute no-lose scenario for the Dodgers.

And who knows, maybe another struggling player is about to get back on track in Dodger blue.
