The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a huge blow this weekend, as superstar outfielder Mookie Betts was placed on the 10-day injured list with a cracked rib. Betts sustained the injury after colliding with center fielder Cody Bellinger during a game against the Los Angeles Angels this past week. The injury leaves the Dodgers' outfield depth chart rather thin, something the team is rumored to be looking to address via potential trade. Here is the Dodgers' trade plan, according to the latest rumors from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
With Mookie out, Dodgers looking to acquire RHH OFer at minimal prospect cost to platoon with Eddy Alvarez in right, source says. Could look for bigger piece in trade later or possibly promote Miguel Vargas, a highly regarded 3B prospect who has 10 homers and an .851 OPS at AAA.

Per Rosenthal, the Dodgers are looking to acquire a right-handed hitting outfielder “at a minimal prospect cost.” The plan, if a trade is made, is for said outfielder to platoon with the left-handed swinging Eddy Alvarez, the 32-year old utility bat.
Per the rumors, the Dodgers could also look to add an outfielder down the road, potentially at the deadline. Finally, Rosenthal sums up his reporting by saying that if all else fails, Los Angeles could call up their no. 5 prospect Miguel Vargas, who is currently raking at Triple-A Oklahoma City to the tune of a .851 OPS.
It certainly makes sense for the Dodgers to add a bat, as Betts' .884 OPS will be sorely missed in an outfield that includes the underachieving Bellinger and Alvarez, who isn't feared with the bat.
Down the road, perhaps the Dodgers look into the likes of Ramon Laureano, Austin Meadows or Whit Merrifield, all outfielders rumored to be on the move.
For now, it seems like the Dodgers are in the market for more of a low-cost option.
