The Miami Dolphins just made a big splash to strengthen their offense on Monday, signing running back Chase Edmonds to a two-year deal worth $12.6 million.
Edmonds is coming off a very impressive season with the Arizona Cardinals, rushing for 592 yards in 12 games. While he only had two touchdowns, the 25-year-old averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Very efficient. The Dolphins certainly need more production in their backfield after ranking 30th in the NFL in 2021 in rushing.
Overall, their offense just struggled, scoring only 20.1 points per game. Although Edmonds has never played for another team in the NFL, he will be coming to Miami with no shortage of confidence following a career year. Given the Dolphins' inability to run the ball as well, Edmonds should get a lot of opportunities to be the main man.
Kyler Murray took to Twitter after the news was announced to express his love and well wishes for Edmonds after years together in Arizona:
The Fordham product will be a threat downfield for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He had 43 catches for 311 yards last season and is truly a versatile weapon. Edmonds split touches with James Conner with the Cardinals and has never really been looked at as an RB1. But now, he gets the chance to be the first-string back with the Dolphins and hopefully helps this team get into the playoffs in 2022.
