It has been a struggle on the Miami Dolphins to find consistency at the quarterback position over the last several weeks with longtime starter Ryan Tannehill dealing with a shoulder injury that has nagged him over the last five games.

There has been some encouraging news on that front on Tuesday afternoon with head coach Adam Gase announcing that Tannehill will make his return to the field for this week's action against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

Tannehill has been out of the mix due to a shoulder injury that he suffered after being hit by Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap back in Week 5. He has been on the mend since then dealing with persistent pain in that area that prevented him from being able to take the field for over the past month. However, has taken some steps forward in his recovery in the last few days as he saw his workload increase in throwing program that shed some light on his availability.

It is clear that has made enough progress to warrant being put back into the mix for the final six games of the year. In the five games that he has played this season, he has thrown for 972 passing yards on a 65.9 percent completion rate with eight touchdowns to five interceptions with a 92.9 passer rating. In his absence, the Dolphins had been leaning on Brock Osweiler to hold down the fort at the position, which the team holds a 2-3 record over that five-game span.

Osweiler has had his fair share of ups and downs in place of Tannehill as he has thrown for 1,247 yards with six touchdowns to four interceptions. This includes throwing zero touchdown passes and two interceptions with just 6.1 yards per attempt over the last three games played. Nonetheless, the return of Tannehill should provide the Dolphins a boost in their push toward the playoffs for the rest of the season.
