Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski made it clear he has had no talks with freshman forward Zion Williamson or his family to potentially shut him down for the rest of the season, according to ESPN's Myron Medcalf.

The proposition of calling his college career a wrap after 26 games has been brought forth by many current and former NBA players, as well as analysts suggesting he has nothing else to prove at the collegiate level given he's already expected to be the undisputed No. 1 overall selection in the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft.

Yet Krzyzewski, who initially said his prized star had suffered a mild knee sprain, won't suit him up just yet, as he missed a 75-65 win over Syracuse over the weekend:

“We would never play a kid who’s not ready,” Krzyzewski said. “We would never play a youngster who didn’t want to play. It’s not about that. He wants to play. He loves being at Duke. He doesn’t like being injured. It’s an injury you can get over in a shorter period of time. There’s just a protocol that we have to go through to make sure he’s completely ready. We’re not rushing anything, so that’s why we said day-to-day because it’s literally day-to-day.”

Zion Williamson is day-to-day after bursting through his shoe and injuring himself in the first minute of action in a rivalry game against North Carolina, a non-contact injury that brought suspense and disappointment as the 6-foot-7 dynamo was forced to sit out the remainder of the game.

Duke (24-3) isn't short of talent, boasting plenty of capable players and other NBA prospects in freshmen Cam Reddish, R.J. Barrett, and Tre Jones.
