Two members of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team were arrested on Sunday. One is Michael Savarino, the grandson of legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The other is Paolo Banchero, the projected number one overall pick for the upcoming NBA draft.

The two Duke stars were arrested in Orange Country in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Savarino was charged for driving while impaired while Banchero was charged with aiding and abetting said DWI.

Savarino was initially halted for running a stop sign up until the officer “observed signs of impairment” and had both taken into custody. Savarino registered a breathalyzer test score of 0.8 blood alcohol content.

“We are reviewing a legal matter involving two members of the men’s basketball team,” Krzyzewski said in a statement released by Duke athletics to the N&O. “Any further actions as a result of this situation will ultimately be determined by the Vice President/Director of Athletics and University officials.”

Savarino initially joined the Duke basketball team in 2019 as a walk-on but eventually garnered scholarship status for this NCAA season. He's played a total of eight minutes in his Blue Devils career, tallying one points, two rebounds, and one assist in that span.

Paolo Banchero has had a much more eventful stint thus far. He's put up impressive averages of 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in three Duke wins, showing flashes of his NBA potential.
