Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is maintaining the faith after an 0-2-1 start to the 2020 season.
Although Wentz and the rest of the Eagles offense has struggled to put up points and take care of the football, the 27-year-old said he will be better moving forward:
“You're going to miss a couple [throws] and you're going to make some plays. Things happen,” Wentz said, via Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports. “Obviously, I just have to be better [and] handle some of these. Some of them are communication, just making sure we're on the same page with everybody, and some are just poor throws.
“I have to be better, and I will. We're still meshing and gelling as a team and building the chemistry. [There were] a lot of moving pieces today, not as an excuse, but guys will continue to get this experience and learn from it. We'll all be better, including myself.”
Of course, it is hard for Wentz to “mesh” and “gel” with skill position players when they are constantly in and out of the lineup.
Running back Miles Sanders missed Week 1. The offensive line and especially the receiving corps have been decimated by injuries, and the pass-catching group took additional hits with DeSean Jackson and Dallas Goedert leaving Sunday's game.
Fortunately, Philly's divisional foes have made it easier to work out the kinks. All four teams are below .500, meaning the Eagles have every opportunity to get things in order and climb back into the division.
But they will need to find ways to provide Wentz–who already has six interceptions–with more opportunities to be successful.
