The Philadelphia Eagles were expected by many to be Super Bowl contenders heading into the 2019 campaign.
Instead, the Eagles find themselves at 3-4 seven weeks into the season and are coming off of a 37-10 beatdown at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys.
Generally, when a team is playing well below expectations, two parties take the brunt of the criticism: the head coach and the quarterback.
Philadelphia is no different.
Head coach Doug Pederson has been denounced throughout the first half of the year, and his recent guarantee of a win over the Cowboys did not exactly go over well.
Meanwhile, quarterback Carson Wentz has been ripped by many for his lackluster showing thus far, including teammates.
Recently, a report surfaced that an anonymous Eagles player said that the team's offense was too complicated (probably a shot at Pederson) and that Wentz doesn't check down enough.
Some surmised that the source was wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, which Jeffery denied.
As for Wentz's thoughts on the whole situation? He isn't making much of it. At least not publicly:
“That stuff always gets handled internally,” Wentz said Wednesday, according to Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal. “That’s not the way we like to do things, through the media like that. So we’re not going to resolve it through the media, either.”
Wentz added that he has spoken to Jeffery and that “everyone's going forward and on the same page.”
The 26-year-old has thrown for 1,649 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 61.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 92.9 thus far.
