The Philadelphia Eagles may be rolling out a depleted offensive line Thursday night against the New York Giants, with Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reporting that starting right tackle Lane Johnson is unlikely to see action due to a lower-body injury.

“My understanding is this high-ankle sprain he was battling is something that will make it difficult for him to play. He’s going to do everything he can and will test it pre-game. But he has an uphill battle. Halapoulivaati Vaitai is his backup.”

This isn’t the kind of news the Eagles would like to deal with, considering the already faulty nature of the team’s offensive line. Philadelphia is seventh in the league in terms of sacks allowed with 17. Quarterback Carson Wentz, who’s only played three games so far since his return from a serious knee injury, has been taken down a total of 12 times. According to Team Rankings, the Eagles are 23rd overall with their quarterbacks getting sacked 7.6 percent of the time.

If anything, an absence by Lane Johnson might not have as big of an impact in any other game than the one the Eagles have later tonight, as the Giants are tied with the Oakland Raiders with the fewest sacks generated with only six.

Nevertheless, Johnson hasn’t been completely ruled out for the Giants game, with Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News noting that the veteran offensive lineman is a “gametime call.”

Johnson has been with the Eagles since being drafted by the team fourth overall back in 2013.
