Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has not been his old self as he continues to mightily struggle from the field this season. His poor self-confidence as of late led many to believe that drafting Jalen Hurts in the 2020 NFL Draft could be a reason for his uninspired play under center thus far, as per Fox Sports‘ Jay Glazer.

The Eagles' choice to draft a gadget quarterback like Hurts instead of other weapons on the offensive end ultimately led to draw public clamor regarding the decision. It was also indicative of the Eagles' plans of grooming Hurts to take over the starting playmaker position in the event that Wentz fails to live up to the billing of a franchise quarterback.

Their 2020 campaign was doomed right from the get-go as many of their key players were dealt with a handful of injuries prior to the season which required them to take time off the field and miss several games. Without a complete cast, it became harder for Carson Wentz to gain significant momentum and lead his team to victories in the regular season.

Through 11 games played, the former North Dakota State standout has recorded 2,541 passing yards on 422 attempts and 16 touchdowns including 15 interceptions and 46 sacks. Despite his dismal performance, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson continues to put his trust in Wentz and is still hoping for him to regain his confidence.

After reigning supreme in the NFC East a season ago, the Eagles were far off this time around as they were limited to a 3-7-1 record to nab third place in the division through Week 12 proceedings.

Indeed, Wentz's future in Philadelphia will be judged by the end of the regular season with Eagles fans already itching to see whether or not there will be a major quarterback change for the team come the 2021 NFL season.
