The defending champion Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly looking to trade out of the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft in order to acquire more picks.

As Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com reports, an executive of another NFL team said the Eagles have been shopping around their 32nd overall pick so they can add to their six picks, which is currently tied for the fewest in the draft. They have just one pick in the first three rounds, with two fourth-rounders, and one pick each in the fifth, sixth, and seven rounds.

“They're doing their homework, now,” the executive said of the Eagles. “I think they want to gauge what teams might be interested and what they could get in return. Remember there's only a few minutes to get a deal done on draft night, so you want to be prepared ahead of time.”

The executive also notes that any trade would likely happen on draft night itself since other teams would still have to wait and see whether a player they are interested in is still on the board and worth trading up to get by that time.

The Eagles parted ways with their second-round pick this year in the trade with the Cleveland Browns which landed them Carson Wentz in 2016. They also traded away their third-rounder to the Buffalo Bills in order to acquire Ronald Darby last season.

Trading down seems like the most logical move for the Eagles. They don’t exactly have any pressing needs for a major talent upgrade at one position, so they can afford to part ways with that first rounder. What they need more of is depth at other spots as they prepare to defend their title this upcoming season.
