After a great game versus Morocco, the US Men's National Team will be facing another formidable foe. USMNT will be playing Uruguay on Sunday, the 5th of June, in a great test of how this young team squares up with the best of the best. Morocco and some other sides that the US faced up until now are the B-tier of world football, but Uruguay is up there with the likes of Brazil, Argentina, and some of the better European nations. As this game approaches, here are three bold USMNT predictions for USA vs. Uruguay.

Bold USMNT Predictions for US v Uruguay

The youngsters will carry again

As pointed out by OptaJack here, the lineup that the manager Gregg Berhalter chose for the match versus Morocco was the 31st out of the last 33 that was under the average age of 25. This one was around 24, and it included youngsters like Yunus Musah who is 19, Brenden Aaronson and Jesús Ferreira who are 21, and Tim Weah who is 22. All of these guys, if their development goes well, will be the true future of the USMNT and that is a great sign for a squad that believed it was doomed after the Trinidad and Tobago fiasco in 2018. Having so much young talent going through the ranks and having a manager who trusts them is monumental for the US in terms of their football future.

In terms of this game, it will be a much bigger challenge, but it is exactly these kinds of games where the USMNT management can see who is the real deal. Granted, it is a friendly and the Uruguayan team might not be as motivated as it would be in a World Cup, but for these youngsters, it will be as competitive as any other game. In other terms, this game will be the true test of who can stay on the roster for the 2022 World Cup and thus, the youngsters will just carry the game for the USMNT. Of course, the best player will be Christian Pulisic, as he has the biggest resume among the players, but it will be the young guns that impress everyone.

Christian Pulisic will show how good he can really be

Since joining Chelsea in 2019, it has become so difficult to grade him as a player. With the weird way that Chelsea have set up, without a proper striker and with all attackers playing different positions, together with Pulisic being up and down with form, it is really hard to rate Pulisic. Playing for the USMNT, that is not the case, as Pulisic has shown up time and time again when the USMNT needed him most. He has been beyond impressive and it is slowly reaching historic levels. Just in the game versus Morocco, Pulisic got his 10th assist for the national team, meaning that he has reached double-digit goals and assists in 49 caps, one less than Landon Donovan.

Playing against Uruguay should be an even bigger challenge for Pulisic and the USMNT he leads as captain. It is a tough side, but Pulisic needs these kinds of games after a fairly poor season with Chelsea. Obviously, the 2020-21 season was great, as Pulisic won a Champions League and played for USMNT with a high degree of success, but finishing third in the EPL and crashing out in the Champions League this season must have been disappointing. Combined with his generally underwhelming play, the USMNT then provides Pulisic with an opportunity to show his worth. He has not hesitated to use the chance before and will likely not hesitate again.

USMNT will win versus Uruguay

Given the international quality and experience this Uruguayan team has, the USMNT, in theory, has nothing to seek in this match. They should just roll over and accept defeat, playing versus such names as Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, Diego Godin, and Federico Valverde. However, the US is undefeated in their last 24 matches at home and they should look to continue that streak with a win. Uruguay is a massive team and a side that could likely beat half of Europe, but they are not invincible.

In essence, the USMNT's game plan should be to target the backline. With veterans like Godin and Coates, there is not enough energy in the Uruguayan backline to cover all of the US's young players. Of course, Ronald Araujo is there, but he cannot do everything himself. This youthful energy, combined with the immense experience of Pulisic, Yedlin, McKennie, and other more seasoned guys, should be enough to take care of this Uruguayan team. It will be a tough game, but the USMNT can definitely defeat Uruguay in this match, as bold as that sounds.
