Prior to Rudy Gay electing to sign a two-year, $17 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, there were reports that he was heavily considering signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Much of this was fueled by Thunder center Enes Kanter tweeting out a photo of Gay's name on a spot in the team's locker room. However, things never truly materialized following that with the veteran forward ultimately deciding to work out a deal with the Spurs.

During a recent interview with Erik Horne of The Oklahoman, Kanter revealed that he truly believed the Thunder had acquired Gay.

“I seriously thought he signed with us, but they just didn't say it publicly,” Kanter told The Oklahoman Tuesday from New York City.

“After I saw he signed with the Spurs, I was like, ‘man I need to get a new source.'”

It appeared to be convincing to see Gay's name on a placard for a locker, but that is likely the process that teams make in order to convince a player to sign with them. The fact that Kanter tweeted out gave some life to that scenario working out, but it proved to not be the case.

This was just a situation where Kanter may have jumped the gun a bit with excitement to possibly add another proven scorer to the mix. He also likely wanted to be the one to break the news about a potential major offseason addition.

That said, the Thunder did make a splash this offseason by acquiring All-Star forward Paul George from the Indiana Pacers to pair alongside reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook. This move certainly makes Oklahoma City a much more dangerous team in the Western Conference.
