Following Kevin Durant‘s decision a year ago to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors in free agency, it has made Russell Westbrook‘s future with the franchise a prominent question.

Although Westbrook has continued to voice his commitment to the Thunder, there have been some chatter that he could follow suit to his former teammate. In light of that, Enes Kanter told Erik Horne of the Oklahoman that he believes that the All-Star point guard will remain with the team through the entirety of his NBA career

“One thing I saw about him is he’s a loyal guy,” Kanter said. “I understand he’s from L.A., he loves L.A., he goes to L.A. every summer, but he’s a loyal player.

“I think he’s gonna finish his career in Oklahoma City.”

Westbrook is set to enter the second year of the three-year $85.5 million extension that he inked last summer which includes a player option worth $30.5 million for the 2018-19 season. It is possible that he will opt out of the deal in hopes of landing a more lucrative contract, especially with the league salary cap continuing to rise significantly.

That said, Westbrook is eligible for the designated player exception that came about in the new CBA. This will allow for him to sign what's essentially being deemed as a super max contract that will pay north of $200 million over five years. Westbrook has already met one of the criteria by earning a spot on the All-NBA First Team for this past season.

This alone could sway Westbrook to re-sign with the Thunder to earn one of the largest contracts in the league while remaining as the face of the franchise. With likely the regular season MVP award coming his way in a few short weeks, it could mark the beginning of what will be a very prosperous summer for Westbrook.
