Ex-Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo took to Instagram to thank fans of the Canadian franchise amid his relocation to the Orlando Magic during this offseason. While the Raptors' front office attempted to resign the 23-year old center, a desperate Magic franchise gambled on the young talent with potential, offering a 4-year, $72 million contract that seemed too irresistible to pass up.
Biyombo gained recognition around the association during this past postseason when the young center stepped into the starting center role after Raptors' center Jonas Valančiūnas went down with an injury. The international 5-year veteran played for the Charlotte Hornets during the first four years of his career, but Biyombo's postseason, as he averaged 6.2 points and 1.4 blocks per game, truly fueled this unbelievable contract.
The Raptors did not have bird rights for Biyombo's contract, and with their own roster pushing the cap space, Toronto couldn't replicate the cash that the Magic were willing to throw at the Congolese center. Following the contract offer from Orlando, the Raptors knew they would have to move on from Biyombo during the next campaign.
One day before he can officially sign his new contract with the Magic, Biyombo released a long statement on Instagram for the fans of Toronto, thanking them for their continued support throughout their playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals.
