Many were caught by surprise when the Sacramento Kings decided to trade DeMarcus Cousins ahead of the trade deadline in February, considering they didn't receive much in return and there was growing belief that he'd re-sign with them when his contract was up.

As it turned out, the New Orleans Pelicans were able to land and pair him with their franchise player Anthony Davis to form a very strong frontcourt. However, former Kings' owner Gavin Maloof said that he wouldn't have dealt Cousins' if it was up to him, via Don Sweeney of The Sun Herald.

“No, no way. Time will tell, but I don't think they got much in return for him.”

Maloof shares the same sentiment as most of the team's supporters, as they feel Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway are not enough in exchange for the All-Star center. However, the Kings are now able to start fresh and not have a lot of money tied up to him moving forward. It will be crucial in having more cap flexibility, which they can use to sign key pieces who can fit well in their system.

Until then, it's still anyone's guess at this point what will happen with the franchise in the future, but one thing that's certain is that their fans are hoping the haul they received in return can help turn their team into a winning group again soon.
