Red Bull’s Max Verstappen calls Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton a ‘stupid idiot’ after their altercation in the Formula 1 US Grand Prix free practice 2 session.

With the season coming down to its last 6 races, tension is definitely rising with Verstappen leading Hamilton by only 6 points. The two F1 championship rivals unnecessarily went wheel-to-wheel in Free Practice 2 on Friday, which provoked Verstappen to give Hamilton the middle finger while calling him a “stupid idiot” over the radio.

Max was understandably upset as the drivers were queueing up to start their lap when all of a sudden, Lewis made an attempt to jump max in track position. Verstappen even went off track for a moment before duking it out on the start-finish straight with Hamilton heading into turn 1 — ultimately, the Dutchman conceded his position.

Verstappen’s frustrations grew even more after encountering traffic throughout the session, yelling “I’m boxing – f*** this,” as he made his way back to the Red Bull garage. Formula 1 Red Bull team principal Christian Horner chimed in on the situation.

“They were obviously queuing up to start the lap and Lewis obviously decided just to jump Max there. I think they have an unwritten rule in sessions like this they take they turn but I think Max was just pointing out he was first in the queue… Just one of those things.”

Due to this, Verstappen only finished 8th in the second practice session — although it is clear that there is pace to be found as his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, topped the timesheets ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, and both Mercedes drivers, Valterri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
