Cloud9 announced that Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin will be taking over the head coach position for the 2021 season. He replaces former head coach Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu.

The announcement was made through a tweet on Cloud9's official account.

Reignover, a former pro player, joined Cloud9's coaching staff in May 2019. With them, he helped the team sweep FaZe Clan in the LCS Spring 2020 finals, as well as reaching 4th in the LCS Summer 2020 split.

Before shifting to the coaching role, Reignover played with some of the top teams in various regions in the world, including Fnatic, Immortals, Team Liquid, and Counter Logic Gaming. He reached the Worlds stage for the first and final time as a player of Fnatic in 2015, ending up at 3rd-4th place.

Reactions from the LoL community have generally been positive, wishing the new head coach good luck.

Since its inception in 2013 until 2019, Cloud9 appeared at the Worlds stage every year. However, the team missed Worlds for the first time this year. Shortly after, the team decided to let go of Reapered.

This is not the first change in Cloud9's roster post-Worlds. Towards the end of October, the team replaced top-laner Eric “Licorice” Ritchie with Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami. These adjustments in Cloud9's lineup is an attempt to fine-tune the team ahead of the 2021 season.

Cloud9 GM Jonathan Tran had this to say about Reignover in a press release:

“Reignover has proven himself as an incredibly capable head coach on our Academy team during the 2020 season by developing the players and bringing home back-to-back titles. With his player-focused approach, he creates an environment where problems are openly discussed, addressed, and improved upon. His recent maturation into an effective head coach in our Academy system combined with his storied player career is more than enough to convince us he will be a great LCS coach. I am excited to see what he will bring to the table this upcoming season.”

Now, it is up to Reignover to set Cloud9 back on track, and return the team to Worlds.
