Today, Capcom has just released one big and final update to one of their longest-running fighting game titles. From 2016 to 2022, Street Fighter V has been Capcom's biggest achievement as their world-renown fighting game title. While the game was very poorly received early on, Street Fighter V eventually improved and won back the hearts and minds of many fighting game fans all over with updates and features that improved the core gameplay, along with added value and features to the game's offline modes and more.
But now, they've decided to give Street Fighter V one last big send-off by releasing the “Definitive Update“, completely free of charge. In this update, players will be treated to a slew of new features and extra content, including new visual filters that will give the game either cel-shaded or pixel filter style. The update also gives players new remixes to classic songs, including remixes of Dan's Theme and Rose's Theme from Street Fighter Alpha.
The biggest part of the Definite Update for Street Fighter V is various balance changes, which attempt to address many of the weaknesses and shortcomings of mid to low-tier characters, such as R. Mika regaining her Passion Rope Throw bounce back, or Ryu's Jodan Sanengeki being cancellable.

The public reception for the definite update seems to be mostly positive, as many of the balance changes have been substantial enough to improve the viability of certain characters in competitive play, although some fans are still calling for more buffs to be made across the board. The inclusion of a cel-shaded and pixel filter is a nice addition, but the downside of them being restricted to offline play online is a disappointment.
Overall though, the fans could have not asked for a more appropriate way to close out this entry. Now let's hope that Street Fighter 6 manages to live up to the series' legacy.
Street Fighter V is available for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and PC via Steam.
