After a resounding victory over Team Secret, who were considered to be the heavy favorites to win ESL One Germany 2020 due to their perfect run in online tournaments, Team Liquid carried on with their momentum courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Natus Vincere in the grand finale.
This was a landmark victory for the organization who has suffered from a major title drought since 2018.
A key component to their victory was the strategic prowess of Aydin “iNSaNiA” Sarkohi which complemented the dominance displayed by Michael “miCKe” Vu.
The first game of the series was a statement victory for Liquid as they dominated the bottom lane where Victor “GeneRaL” Nigrini's Batrider was no match from the aggressive pressure coming from Samuel “Boxi” Svahn's Slardar and Tommy “Taiga” Le's Io. GeneRaL's struggles carried on in the 2nd game where his Beastmaster received a constant mauling coming from Maximilian “qojqva” Brocker's Storm Spirit, Boxi's Tusk, and miCKe's Sven. It was ultimately Taiga's black hole at the very end that sealed the fate of Na'Vi.
After an abysmal two games, Na'Vi regained some steam in the third game where GeneRaL avenged his early blushes with a dominant Mars display, perfectly synergizing well with Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosyan's Phoenix. There were some nervy moments for Na'Vi as Team Liquid were able to regain some composure courtesy of miCKe's Spectre play supported by Taiga's Io and iNSaNiA's Rubick, however this was thwarted by Na'Vi's timely assaults on miCKe and their pursuit of the objectives which further hampered Liquid's recovery.
But in the end it was Team Liquid that prevailed as their engagements in the 24th and 29th minute proved to be the decisive moments in game 4th game.
INSaNiA's leadership was likewise the decisive factor in Liquid's championship run which earned him the Mercedes-Benz ESL One Germany MVP. This was also his very first major trophy.
