Tekken pro player AK was recently involved in a controversy in DreamHack 2024 that led to a backlash among fans and the community. This year's DreamHack took place in Dallas wherein the top 64 Tekken pro players went head-to-head in a battle for supremacy. One of the crowd favorites entering the tournament was none other than the Combo Breaker 2024 champion AK. However, after a game-changing moment that took place during his crucial match-up, he's now in a sticky predicament.

Tekken Pros AK and JDCR Controversy

PlayBook Esports' AK went up against Karmine Corp.'s JDCR on Day 1 of DreamHack 2024. Their matchup was highly anticipated due to JDCR's legendary status in the Tekken community and AK's recent climb to the top. While their bout was nothing short of thrilling, a shocking moment took place in their crucial tie-breaker, leading to many speculations from fans.

AK and JDCR both had one win each in their best-of-three matchup. In their tie-breaker match, the Korean pro fought as Dragunov while the Philippines pro selected Shaheen. The match was close as both contenders won two rounds a piece and forced a final round. However, as JDCR was about to deliver the final blow to AK, another controller connected to the PlayStation 5 that they were using. This led to a login prompt that mandated the controller to select a user profile, which disrupted the entire match.

JDCR had a look of disbelief in his eyes and the crowd was upset as well. Under tournament rules, if there were to be outside interference during a match, no matter the circumstances, the game must restart. Ultimately, AK took the win. However, fans didn't find the victory convincing and are now pointing fingers at the Filipino pro.

AK then went on to climb his way to the top five, leaving a strong impression on the Tekken community. The Filipino pro only used Shaheen throughout the tournament, which is understandable considering he won Combo Breaker 2024 with the same character. As for JDCR, he still managed to make the top 12 despite everything that took place.

Did AK sabotage the game?

Understandably, many fans were upset with the outcome between Tekken pros AK and JDCR. The Korean pro player is considered to be a legend in the Tekken scene, which means many were rooting for him to win. As a result, many speculated that the Filipino pro had something to do with the incident. However, it doesn't appear that AK did such a thing, and here's why.

During a matchup between Joe Crush and Farzeen, the American pro found himself in a similar situation. Joe's wired controller kept disconnecting before their match started. When his controller finally reconnected, the same login prompt popped up asking him to select a user profile.

Now going back to the AK vs. JDCR match, none of their controllers ever disconnected. The login prompt simply appeared out of nowhere. This means that someone else outside the match attempted to connect their controller to the PlayStation 5. With all that said, there's nobody else to blame here but the tournament organizers.

Post-Tournament Fan Reactions

Many fans became hostile towards AK during the spur of the moment. Thankfully, fans later realized that the Filipino Tekken pro had nothing to do with the controversy. Reddit user KurderenEser started a thread asking fans to stop hating on him.

Not everyone might know what happend between JDCR Vs AK, long story short JDCR also known as Juducruh, got robbed off of a win in this match, because someone plugged or unplugged their controller at the end of a JDCR game ending combo. It is what it is, we all sad about this, but chill with the comments about AK. As if he is the culprit and the one who did it. I'm sure he feels as bad about it as some of us. So give him a break man.

Fortunately, many fans on the thread agreed with KurderenEser's sentiments and acknowledged that it was the tournament organizer's fault. Some still felt like AK played a part in JDCR's robbery. But the fact of the matter is that the tournament organizers carelessly left a controller's Bluetooth on which would inevitably disrupt a match.

While many are likely still upset with the DreamHack 2024 controversy, everyone needs to live with the fact that AK beat JDCR. Fortunately, there are a plethora of tournaments before the Esports World Cup 2024 takes place. JDCR still has lots of time to redeem himself and prove he was the rightful winner in the DreamHack controversy.
