Reigning LCL champions Unicorns of Love (UOL) have released their entire League of Legends (LoL) roster by “mutual agreement”. The sudden announcement came via Twitter on Monday as the 2021 LoL World Championship main stage matches began.

“We accept the fact that players need constant development,” the statement read. “[The players] are becoming free agents and are ready to receive proposals from any organizations outside the CIS.”

Previously part of Europe's LEC, Unicorns of Love dominated the continental league in Russia. But they had a lackluster run at this year's Worlds play-ins. The team crashed out of the tournament with a 1-3 record, taking a game off only North America's Cloud9. But while NA's third seed punched a ticket to the Worlds main event, the CIS' representatives headed for home.

Although wildcard regions typically aren't expected to beat out the major regions, Unicorns of Love's 2021 Worlds run is still a disappointing end to the post-season. After all, the team qualified for the main event just a year ago, despite not making it out of groups in the end. UOL's poor showing at the Mid-Season Invitational earlier this year also didn't help the team's cause.

The five released players are Vladislav “BOSS” Fomin, Kirill “AHaHaCiK” Skvortsov, Lev “Nomanz” Yakshin, Andrey “Argonavt” Yakovlev, and Aleksandr “SaNTaS” Lifashini. Four of them were part of UOL the last two years, with AD Carry Argonavt being the only recent addition. However, all will be searching for new teams in the off-season if they are hoping to keep playing pro.

Unicorns of Love meanwhile will also be staying in the LoL scene. With a fresh set of faces in the LCL next year, the org still aims to “win every season and go far at international events”.
