Echoes are an essential part of Wuthering Waves, as they provide your characters with powerful buffs and stats. If you're still unsure about how they work, then don't worry. In this guide, we will teach you everything you need to know about the Echoes in Wuthering Waves.
Wuthering Waves – What Are Echoes?
Let's start off with the most important question: what exactly are Echoes?
Echoes are a type equipment that players can equip to their Resonators alongside weapons. These give various stats to your players, such as ATK, HP, DEF, and more.
The closest thing that you can compare Echoes to in other gacha games is the Artifacts and Relics that you can get in Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail respectively, and are equally as important.
Other than giving Resonators the stats they need, Echoes also provides what is called the Echo Skill. These are active skills that players can activate in the overworld. Some Echo Skills deal damage, buff, or heal a Resonator, while others have off-battle effects like gathering all nearby collectibles.
It's no exaggeration to say that Echoes are what separates weak Resonators from the strong ones.
Wuthering Waves – Where To Find Echoes?
There are a total of five ways for players to find Echoes in Wuthering Waves. The first, and perhaps the easiest way, is to just defeat enemies in the overworld. Defeating the various enemies scattered all over the map gives a chance for an Echo to drop, which players can then absorb.

It is important to note, however, that the only enemies that drop Echoes are the monster enemies, including the Elite and Overlord Class monsters. Human enemies will never drop an absorbable Echo.
The second way is for players to complete Tacet Fields. Completing Tacet Field challenges and claiming the rewards will award players with Echoes, Tuners, and Echo EXP materials. This is a viable option if players want Echoes from a specific Sonata set, which we will tackle later.

The third way for players to receive Echoes is as a reward for completing various in-game features and quests, such as the Tactical Holograms and Daily Activity. Some of these, like the Tactical Hologram, only give rewards from the first clear, while the Daily Activity resets every day.
Players can also get Echoes from the Data Merge feature, which allows them to convert five Echoes into one of the same or higher Rarity. This unlocks at Data Bank Level 8, but it is not recommended to use it until at least Data Bank 15, as players can start getting 5-Star Echoes then.

Finally, players can get Echoes from the Pioneer Podcast, or the game's Battle Pass. Upon reaching level 52 in the Pioneer Podcast, and every 2 or 3 levels after until 59 (70 with the Insider Channel), players can receive 2 Echoes (4 with the Insider Channel.

Wuthering Waves – Sonata Effects

Similar to the Set bonuses that players receive from equipping 2 or 4 Artifacts or Relics from the same Artifact/Relic set, Echoes also provide Resonators with additional bonuses, called Sonata Effects. These activate whenever the player equips 2 or 5 Echoes from the same group.
Since players can equip up to 5 Echoes at a time, they can have either 1 or 2 Sonata Effects active at all times, alongside the Echo Skill. That means players can choose to either mix and match their Sonata Effects, or get one powerful Sonata Effect from the 5-piece set.
As of this article, there are 9 Sonata Effects in the game, with more potentially being added in the future:

Wuthering Waves – Echo Costs Guide
It's important to note, however, that although players can equip up to 5 Echoes, it doesn't mean that they can just go ahead and equip five Overlord Class Echoes. This is because each Echo has a designated Cost, and there exists a Cost Limit that limits what Echoes a Resonator can equip.
The Cost Limit for a player is based on the level of their Data Bank. From Level 0 to Level 2, players have a Cost Limit 0f 8. From Level 3 to Level 8, the Cost Limit goes up to 10. Finally, from level 9 onwards, the Cost Limit is 12.
Common Class enemies drop 1-Cost Echoes, and give the least stats per level. That means that a Level 5 1-Cost Echo will have less stats than a Level 5 3-Cost echoes. Speaking of, 3-Cost Echoes are those that drop from Elite Class enemies, while 4-Cost Echoes drop from Overlord Class enemies.
To maximize the stats that players can get from Echoes, it is ideal to equip the following:
- 1 4-Cost Echo, usually with Crit Rate, Crit DMG or Healing Bonus
- 2 3-Cost Echoes, usually with Elemental DMG Bonus Stats
- 2 1-Cost Echoes, usually with ATK, HP, or DEF, depending on what stat your Resonator scales off of.
To further maximize stats, players should equip 5-Star Echoes, as these can reach up to Level 25, while also giving 5 Tuning Slots.
Wuthering Waves – Echo Tuning Guide

Tuning adds substats to Echoes. Unlike in Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail, where an Artifact or Relic piece has 3-4 substats from the get-go, Wuthering Waves requires players to add up to five substats to their Echoes, ranging from ATK bonuses, to Heavy Attack DMG Bonuses, as well as the sought after Crit Rate and Damage substats.
Tuning slots unlocks for an Echo every five levels, up to a maximum of five for Level 25 5-Star Echoes. Once players unlock a Tuning Slot, they can then proceed to Tune said Echo using special items called Tuners, which players can get from Tacet Fields, as well as Shell Credits.

Once the player decides how many slots to Tune, they can proceed Tuning it, awarding them with a new substat. It is important to note that it is entirely possible for the substat to be the same as the Echo's main stat. For example, a 4-Cost Crit Rate Echo can also Tune a Crit Rate substat.

Ideally, a resonator will have a complete set of 5-star Echoes, each of which is fully leveled and fully tuned. This ensures that your Resonator is performing at their best.
That's all for our guides to Echoes in Wuthering Waves. Wuthering Waves is available on Google Play, the Apple App Store, and PC via the Epic Games Store and its official PC client.
