Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James remained at the forefront of his advocacy as the state of Georgia is set to hold a runoff election for control over the Senate in the coming years, per New York Times.
The four-time NBA MVP was previously involved in spearheading the More Than A Vote campaign which aimed to increase voter turnouts, especially for the African-American communities.
Sports teams all over the United States also played a key role in the recently-concluded Presidential Elections as most stadiums were utilized as polling centers which helped more people to be able to cast their votes.
The work that LeBron James along with his fellow athletes and their respective teams eventually paid dividends as the recent elections saw Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump to be elected as the 46th President of the United States.
However, the work isn't done as the runoff elections in Georgia will determine if Biden's Democrats will get to control the Congress when he assumes office on Jan. 20. His party will need to win both seats in the elections while Trump's Republicans will only need to emerge victorious in one seat to retain power in the Senate. The results of the elections in Georgia will play a pivotal role in Biden's looming presidency and how his agendas will be pushed moving forward.
Georgia-based pro teams in the NFL's Atlanta Falcons also had their players actively campaigning leading to the elections but didn't attach themselves to a single candidate. They instead encouraged the voters to be educated and to vote responsibly in the elections.
However, the WNBA's Atlanta Dream continued to campaign for the candidacy of Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, a Democrat who is fighting for one of the seats against a Republican in Senator Kelly Loeffler who appears to be a co-owner of the team.
Hopefully, their efforts won't be wasted and the elections will turn out to be a success in hopes of steering America towards a brighter future moving forward.
