Los Angeles Lakers big man Montrezl Harrell denied the notion his affiliation with Klutch Sports was the reasoning behind his decision to join the Purple and Gold in free agency.

The Lakers have a number of guys represented by Klutch, notably LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, Harrell said Monday his representation “has nothing to do” with switching L.A. teams.

Harrell added he made the decision he felt was best for him:

“As far as my decision, it (relationship with James and Davis) didn’t have any effect, because at the end of the day my decision doesn’t affect neither one of those guys’ lives,” Harrell said, via Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation.

“I have a family I have to provide for, so my decision was my decision. I talked with my family and people in my tight circle, and this is what we felt was best for me.”

It really does not come as a big surprise Harrell decided to join the Lakers.

The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year felt disgruntled with the Clippers last season. Some reports suggested the Clippers felt comfortable allowing him to walk in free agency, which Harrell himself said he felt was the case.

Meanwhile, the Lakers were coming off a championship, with a foundation of Davis and James leading the way. Whereas the Clips seemed to struggle from internal turmoil, LeBron and AD were tone-setters and clubhouse confidants for the Lakers throughout the season. They had the right situation for Harrell to come in and play while competing for a championship.

Ultimately, the 26-year-old signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the Lakers. Harrell is averaging 12.9 points and 7.6 rebounds through seven games as L.A. is off to a 5-2 start.
