The Bills and Giants met in Super Bowl XXV. Now their GMs are in the news. Brandon Beane believes former boss Dave Gettleman is all about smokescreens.

The Buffalo Bills general manager said Gettleman (the GM of the New York Giants) is far smarter than the media and public give him credit for, adding Gettleman is actually quite tech savvy (via Dan Benton of USA TODAY):

“Can’t trust him. Dave’s smart, man. He’s throwing all the curveballs out there,” Beane said of Gettleman’s viral home office photo. “He’s actually pretty tech savvy. Don’t let him fool you in all seriousness.”

Beane's comments came in the aftermath of a viral photo showcasing Gettleman's “setup” as he prepares to conduct the draft for the Giants on a virtual scale.

However, Beane–who worked for Gettleman with the Carolina Panthers–said the photo distracts from Gettleman's awareness. He might have cause for suspicion, as well: Gettleman actually conducted a virtual draft back in 2014.

The Giants figure to be major players when draft proceedings start on Thursday. New York owns the No. 4 overall pick, but Gettleman has also indicated he is open to moving down from that spot so as to acquire more picks or future considerations.

This should not be considered a huge surprise. The Detroit Lions–who hold the No. 3 pick–also appear interested to move down, which could mean the Giants and Lions hope to use their leverage to get a package from one of the teams in need of a quarterback.

In any case, Beane hopes members of the New York media will stop positing the notion that Gettleman is out of his element.
