One man's trash is another man's treasure indeed. The New York Giants no longer needed to look far as the team acquired placekicker Aldrick Rosas' replacement from its neighboring team. Former New York Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro was released from the team’s reserve list last week and eventually inked a one-year deal with the Giants.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter disclosed the latest Giants' acquisition on Twitter:
Giants are signing former Jets’ kicker Chandler Catanzaro to a one-year deal, per league source. He retired last August and was released from the Jets’ reserve/left squad list just last week. With the Giants releasing Aldrick Rosas today, Catanzaro steps in.

Former Giants placekicker Aldrick Rosas was re-signed as a restricted free agent for $3.3 million this offseason after the Giants used a second-round tender on him. However, all went downhill on July 17 when Rosas was arrested and jailed for a misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license. He was recently released by the team for his off-field disputes.
Chandler Catanzaro is a former Clemson Tiger who played four years with the powerhouse squad. After his amateur career, he went on to be an undrafted player in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was then acquired by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free-agent and stayed with the team for three years.
Catanzaro then took his talents to the Jets where he stayed for a season. In 2018, Catanzaro signed a three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but didn't play out the entirety of his contract as he eventually signed with the Carolina Panthers the season after.
In March 2019, he signed a contract for a second run with the Jets but eventually announced his retirement on August 11, 2019. He amassed career totals of 128 field goals, 142 field goal attempts, and 237 touchbacks thus far.
At 29 years old, the seven-year veteran is still very much capable of contributing to a rebuilding Giants squad. Big Blue is rolling out the upcoming 2020 season as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 14 at MetLife Stadium.
