The New York Giants were lambasted for taking Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft back in April, but all accounts of Jones have been pretty good thus far.

As a matter of fact, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur has said that Jones has “exceeded expectations.”

“We really haven’t seen anything he can’t do in terms of playing quarterback,” said Shurmur, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN NFL Nation.

Going into the draft, pretty much everyone expected to New York to take a quarterback, as 38-year-old Eli Manning is entering the final year of his deal and is clearly on the decline.

However, the general consensus was that the Giants would take Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins, who is a New Jersey native and badly wanted to play for Big Blue. Instead, New York passed up on Haskins to take Jones, resulting in Haskins falling to the Washington Redskins at No. 15.

Jones is coming off of a junior campaign at Duke in which he threw for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 131.7.

He arrived at Duke in 2015 but did not play at all that season, redshirting as a freshman in 2016. That year, Jones threw for 2,836 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine picks. Then, during his sophomore year, Jones finished with 2,691 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The Giants like Jones' athleticism and ability to make plays out of the pocket, so we'll see how that translates for the youngster on the NFL level.
