The New York Giants have taken some fire from the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2019 NFL season. It seems quarterback Daniel Jones has since acknowledged the harsh criticism from quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield recently admitted his surprise that the Giants took Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft given his modest success at Duke. Jones has since responded by taking the high road in response, via Emory Hunt of Football Gameplan.

“I wish we did win more games and I played a big part in that so I take responsibility for that. Our goal was always to win ACC Championships and go to big bowl games and we weren't able to do that. I don't look back on that without a large responsibility.”

It appears Jones has no interest in trading barbs with Mayfield. The Browns' star has never been shy about expressing his opinion and this boisterous approach has made him one of the most polarizing players in the league. Regardless, it is safe to say that he is not the only one with doubts.

The Giants caught some flak for their decision given the fact that Jones did not exactly enjoy a decorated college career. Aside from the lack of winning, his numbers were hardly eye-popping during his three years as the starter. Regardless, he managed to show enough promise throughout the draft process for the Giants to peg him as the successor to quarterback Eli Manning.

Jones will likely continue to deal with criticism until the time comes for him to take over under center.
