New York Giants fans didn't have the best of offseasons. But the latest development on their team's final preseason game is sure to give some of them a morale boost.

Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com revealed in a recent tweet that the Giants will start rookie Daniel Jones at quarterback in their big preseason finale against the New England Patriots, with Eli Manning sitting the game out.

It shouldn't be a big surprise to learn that Manning won't play. He's slated to start in Week 1, so the Giants don't need him picking up any unnecessary injury.

As a result, Giants fans will get a taste of what Jones can do against a superb team like the Pats. The former Blue Devil was a consistent force ever since playing his first college game. He never dropped below 2,600 yards in his college career and his QB rating in his final season at the Wallace Wade Stadium was an impressive 131.7.

It would take a tremendous showing for Jones to change coach Pat Shurmur's mind about who his starter will be. While Jones has impressed at times in preseason, Manning is still the superior quarterback at this point.

Eli's latest foray as the Giants QB saw him put up numbers not seen since his last Pro Bowl year in 2015. He had 4,300 passing yards, made fewer interceptions (11), gained more yards per pass attempts (7.5) and yards per completing (11.3), and had his highest QB rating in a while (92.4).

However, it's understandable that fans want something to change. The team hasn't made any deep playoff runs since their Super Bowl XLVI win. Manning is also up there in age and only has a few years left in the tank.

Whether the Giants stick with Manning one more season or completely begin their rebuild will depend on Jones' performance against the perennial Super Bowl champions, though.
