It's been almost a week now, and the New York Giants taking quarterback Daniel Jones sixth overall is still a hot topic of discussion. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman caused quite the uproar by taking Jones sixth, and he's had to spend the past week defending the decision.

Fans were outraged at the pick and many analysts were baffled, mostly over the belief that Jones still would've been there at No. 17 when the Giants picked again. The thinking has been that the Giants could've added a stud pass-rusher like Kentucky's Josh Allen at six, then gotten Jones later in the first round if they wanted him. Allen ended up going the pick after, seventh overall to the Jaguars.

Gettleman has pushed back on that notion, saying he knows for a fact two teams would've taken Jones before the Giants got another chance at 17. Now Jones' college coach at Duke, David Cutcliffe, is chiming in to echo that sentiment, per Sirius XM NFL Radio.

“I know things that I can't reveal, but he would've gone well before that,” Cutcliffe teased.

Media reports have indicated that's not true, and it's hard to know who to believe. Teams like the Redskins or Dolphins who had selections between the two picks might've been interested, but we'll likely never know for sure.

To his credit, Jones has been taking all the criticism in stride. Jones said during a recent interview that he isn't paying attention to all the social media talk, and that he's just focused on quarterbacking. That's a very good sign, because if he's going to survive in the New York media market he's going to need to have very thick skin.

Being the heir apparent to Eli Manning, the spotlight will be directly on him the entire time. It'll be revealing to see how he handles it.
