In the last several weeks, there has been much dialogue surrounding veteran offensive tackle Ereck Flowers' future with the New York Giants. A substantial level of disgruntlement came from Flowers after the team made the decision to sign his potential replacement in Nate Solder and made him available in trade talks.

According to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com, the Giants have put Flowers in the first team practicing at the starting right tackle position.

The switch over to right tackle signals that the team doesn't necessarily hold him in high regard as they once did. He has struggled to play at a steady level this past season that may have led to New York leading to them signing Solder to a four-year, $62 million deal.

Flowers is set to enter the final year of his four-year, $14.3 million deal that will pay him roughly $4.6 million for the 2018 NFL season. There was a $12.5 million fifth-year option on the contract, but the front office has decided not to pick that up ahead of the May 3 deadline. This has made it clear that there is no long-term future in New York for Flowers as his time could come to a close next offseason the team either doesn't move him before that.

The Giants had taken him with the ninth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft in hopes he could be a long-term anchor on the offensive line that could protect quarterback Eli Manning's blindside. However, his play has notably been an issue that contributed to the team's porous play on the offensive line that played a part in New York finishing with one of the worst records in the 2017 campaign. For the time being, this move to starting right tackle gives the sense that he will play a significant part in the Giants' plans for next season.
