The New York Giants have their sights set on Matt Rhule to fill their head-coaching vacancy, but if things with Rhule fall through, they have a contingency plan.

The Giants will be interviewing Rhule on Tuesday, but if the two sides end up going separate ways, Paul Schwartz of The New York Post says that New York views former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett as a fallback option.

This falls in line with the speculation that the reason the Cowboys waited so long to announce a decision on Garrett was because they did not want the Giants jumping on Garrett in case they were trying to hire a head coach quickly.

Of course, it doesn't seem like Garrett has ever been New York's top choice, as Big Blue has appeared to be prioritizing Rhule all along, but apparently, there is a slim chance that the Giants could end up with Garrett.

Garrett spent part of his 12-year NFL career with New York, residing with the Giants as a backup quarterback from 2000 through 2003.

He landed his first NFL coaching job in 2005, taking over as the Miami Dolphins' quarterbacks coach. After two seasons with the Dolphins, Garrett joined Dallas' staff as an offensive coordinator.

Garrett was eventually elevated to head coach midway through the 2010 campaign after the firing of Wade Phillips. He had been at the helm for the Cowboys ever since, going 85-67 with three NFC East division titles and a pair of playoff wins.

Rhule, on the other hand, has spent very little time on the professional level, with his only experience coming as the Giants' assistant offensive line coach in 2012.
