When the New York Giants hired Joe Judge as the team's next head coach, many fans in New York were left scratching their heads. Following his introductory press conference, Judge stated that he is ‘not really concerned' about the reaction to his hiring.

“I’m not really concerned with who interviewed for the job,” Judge said via ProFootballTalk. “All I’m concerned about is the opportunity I have in front of meand what I have to do going forward. And I’m going to tell my players the same thing. It doesn’t matter how you got there, how high-profile you might be. It’s what you do on a daily basis. You’re in a position: Earn it. Earn it every day.”

Before Judge accepted the job, the Giants already brought in multiple candidates for interviews. After the Carolina Panthers chose to name Matt Rhule as their next head coach, New York made Judge their next head coach.

In the past five seasons, Judge spent his time as the New England Patriots' special teams coordinator. The Patriots also had Judge become the team's wide receivers coach after Chad O'Shea left for the Miami Dolphins to become the offensive coordinator.

Without a doubt, Judge wasn't the most glamorous or exciting hire that a team has made thus far. However, it's unfair to make an assumption on him before he gets a chance to prove himself in a more prominent role.

Teams typically don't hire special teams coordinators as head coaches in the NFL. But the last time a team did take a chance on one, the Baltimore Ravens found a diamond in the rough like John Harbaugh.
