Last week went as poorly as possible for the New York Giants and their receiving room. Kelvin Benjamin will not be their solution.

The Giants lost speedster Corey Coleman to an ACL tear, Golden Tate to a PED suspension for four weeks, and Sterling Shepard to a thumb injury for an unknown period of time. Naturally, the team decided to negate its losses by bringing in receivers T.J. Jones and Amba Etta-Tawo. The Giants also brought in others for visits.

Former Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs receiver Kelvin Benjamin was initially reported to be among those other visits, according to Art Stepleton of The Record. However, that never came to fruition. Earlier on Monday, light was shown onto the Benjamin-Giants situation. Via an update from Stepleton, Benjamin was invited but never attended the workout.

Kelvin Benjamin may still be on the Giants' radar. General manager Dave Gettleman selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft while he was the GM for the Panthers. In his first two seasons in Carolina, Benjamin did well. He recorded 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns on 73 catches (50.3% catch rate) as a rookie. As a sophomore, he tallied 941 yards and seven scores on 63 receptions (53.5% catch rate). It turns out, those have been his best years in the NFL.

Carolina traded Benjamin to the Bills after firing Gettleman. Since then, Benjamin struggled to stick with a team. Weight problems and inconsistent hands have continued for the receiver. He was released by the Bills after no more than a full season of play (over two half-seasons) and signed with the Chiefs late in 2018, playing a marginal role. So far, his free agency has been stagnant. Not working out for the Giants adds to that reality.
