After two disappointing performances, the New York Giants will be making a change in the offensive line ahead of the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans. Chad Wheeler, an 2017 undrafted free agent, will be starting over Ereck Flowers. In his Twitter account, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapaport reports:

Giants coach Pat Shurmur confirms to @KimJonesSports that he’s benching Ereck Flowers and starting RT Chad Wheeler: “It’s about giving Chad a chance. See what we get.” Says it’s more about that than taking Flowers off the field.

When asked about why they chose to bench Flowers, Giants coach Pat Shurmur told the NFL network this morning:

“It's more about giving Chad an opportunity,”

“Less about benching Ereck. Ereck needs to be ready to go, if we need him. We're only going to go as far as that line blocks for us, and I want to put guys in and give them an opportunity.”

Some may remember that Flowers was moved to be a right tackle after spending three years on the left side. It seems that the adjustment has not come easy based on his performances.

The change comes as the Giants are in need of a much-needed win after losing their first two games. Much criticism has been placed on the offensive line especially after last week's loss to the Cowboys where quarterback Eli Manning was sacked 6 times.

For a team with weapons in multiple positions like Odell Beckham, Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram, it is almost inexcusable for them to be 28th in the NFL in total yards.

However, this new lineup will surely be tested going up against a very formidable Houston Texans defense led by 3-time Defensive Player of the year JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. The Texans are also looking for their first win of the season after losing to the Patriots and Titans.
