The New York Giants dominated headlines by drafting Daniel Jones and Corey Ballentine's situation. The Giants recently signed Ballentine, their sixth-round pick.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, New York has signed Ballentine to a contract. He also has returned to the team after being shot the same night he was drafted by the Giants.

It's been a scary and sad few weeks for Ballentine, who saw his friend Dwane Simmons murdered the night he was drafted. Ballentine was also shot but he didn't suffer the same fate as his friend.

It's a sad story, as it seems like Ballentine was just out with his friend celebrating being drafted like anyone would. He was returning from a party that was off-campus of Washburn University, where Ballentine and Simmons attended.

What happened after that will likely stick with Ballentine for the rest of his life. It's nice to see him recover from his injury and be able to still sign a contract with the team who drafted him.

The Giants need help at the cornerback position after being ranked 23rd against the pass in 2018. Ballentine could find himself making the roster if he can come through with a good performance in training camp and the preseason.

After that, Balentine could steadily work his way up the depth chart at cornerback if he improves some of the areas of his game. Besides, Janoris Jenkins and Deandre Baker are the only two guys who have their spots reserved so far.

Every Giants fan should be rooting for Ballentine to make the roster and have a successful career. The situation he found himself was unfortunate, to say the least, but hopefully he makes the most out of his opportunity in New York.
