The New York Giants are nearing the decision to hire Pat Shurmur as their next head coach after moving on from Ben McAdoo. The news made its way to Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who quickly took to Twitter to voice his excitement for the expected hire.

Shurmur is serving as the Vikings' offensive coordinator this season, leading a potent attack that possesses one of the top offenses in the NFL. They rank 10th with 23.9 points per game, seventh with 122.3 per yards contest, and 11th with 234.6 yards per game. His hiring in New York will mark the second head coaching stint that the 52-year-old, as he previously spent two seasons at the helm for the Cleveland Browns, compiling a 9-23 record over that span.

After leaving Cleveland, he was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-15. He then became the Vikings' tight ends coach in back in 2016, working his way up to offensive coordinator this season. The work he has done this season with Case Keenum, who was viewed as being nothing than a backup quarterback prior to 2017, bodes quite well for his reputation as a bright offensive mind.

Shurmur will be tasked with helping former Pro Bowl quarterback Eli Manning bounce back in a major way next season. The 37-year-old is coming off a campaign where he posted just 3,468 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The hope is that he can put together a coaching staff and roster that will quickly return to the postseason.

Beckham Jr. will play a huge part of that process, as he's one of the league's premier players at his position. The 25-year-old is still recovering from a broken ankle, but he has proven to be a game-changing talent in the Giants' passing game through his first four seasons.
