The New York Giants will not have the services of linebacker Olivier Vernon and cornerback Eli Apple when the team takes the field this coming Sunday to play the New Orleans Saints at home.

In a report by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, it’s been revealed that Vernon will have to wait at least another week to make his first appearance of the year prior signs pointing to his season debut in Week 4.

Vernon, who’s being slowed down by a hamstring injury since last month, practiced on Wednesday and Thursday, but apparently is not yet given the green light to see action this Sunday. The soonest he can suit up will be in the Giants’ Week 5 tilt with the Carolina Panthers. Olivier Vernon played 12 games last season and had 6.5 sacks to go with 23 tackles.

As for Eli Apple, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star corner will miss his second consecutive game because of a groin ailment.

In lieu of Apple, the Giants are likely to let B.W. Webb start alongside cornerback Janoris Jenkins. Webb and Jenkins should have their hands full on Sunday against the Saints’ prolific offense that is third in the NFL in passing yards with 345.3 per game. Conversely, the Giants are 11th against the pass with 232.0 passing yards surrendered per contest.
