After a rocky start to the offseason, the New York Giants found their new head coach in former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. There is plenty of optimism around the Giants organization with Shurmur's hiring, including how he'll utilize quarterback Eli Manning.

During his introductory press conference, Shurmur expressed how excited he is to work with Manning.

“He’s an outstanding player and I can’t wait to get to work with him,” Shurmur said.

He added that Manning still looks like he may have a few more years left in the tank.

“I watched Eli throw a little bit over the summer and I walked away saying he looked really, really good,” Shurmur said. “He looked fit. He was throwing the ball well. The ball had good velocity coming off his hands. Again, I think he's got years left. How much? I don't know. But I think he has time left and I look forward to working with him.”

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Manning's future with the Giants. The veteran was benched last season after a disastrous record, as the former coaching staff, headed by Ben McAdoo, decided to experiment under center.

Needless to say, it did not work out very well, as Manning subsequently returned to being the starter following McAdoo's firing. That said, there are those who believe New York may pick a quarterback to start grooming under the two-time Super Bowl champ.

However, based on Shurmer's recent comments, it could still be awhile before the Giants ultimately decide to move on from Manning for good.
