It's been a rough couple of years for New York Giants fans. After going 11-5 and making the playoffs in 2016, the Giants have been terrible each of the past two years. It would be easy for the team to be down, but one player who isn't letting his confidence be phased is Saquon Barkley.

The sophomore running back spoke to the media today, and said he didn't understand why the fans were so upset.

“Why are you frustrated? In my mind we have a great team,” Brakley said, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Many Giants fans are particularly upset that the team doesn't have a successor for Eli Manning, and that they appear to be rolling into 2019 with Manning as the starter. The trade of Odell Beckham Jr. didn't exactly help smooth things over either.

Although Giants fans of course love Barkley, many were hoping the team would draft a quarterback like Sam Darnold with the second overall pick last year. Barkley was asked by a reporter if he understood why some fans had wanted a signal-called with that pick. Barkley said he did, but added “if a Rookie of the Year doesn't sway that mindset, I don't know what will,” per Kimberly Jones of NFL Network.

Barkley is one of the most humble players in the league, so it takes a lot for him to say something like that. Barkley was sensational last season, and he was the heart and soul of the Giants' offense. He rushed for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns, and added 91 receptions for 721 yards and another four touchdowns.

With Beckham out of the picture, Barkley will be even more important to the offense next year.
