New York Giants rookie Saquon Barkley is already breaking records just two games into his NFL career. But instead of a rushing record, the Giants running back has set a new franchise receiving mark.

Barkley caught 14 passes in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which broke the Giants’ single-game record of 13 previously held by another great Giants running back, Tiki Barber. It also tied the NFL record for most single-game receptions for a rookie.

Curiously, though, Barkley recorded just 80 yards with his 14 catches. That makes him the first player ever to catch 14 or more passes while gaining fewer than 90 yards (per Pro Football Talk). But while his total yardage wasn’t all that impressive, his 14 catches were nevertheless impressive.

One of the main reasons why Barkley was considered such a highly-rated prospect during the draft process was that apart from being an explosive running, he was also a reliable receiver. He certainly proved just how reliable he can be with his record-breaking performance against the Cowboys.

Barkley didn’t have the greatest day on the ground against the Cowboys as the Dallas defense limited him to just 28 yards on 11 carries. But thanks to his receiving ability, he can still contribute to the offense even if the opposing defense is committed to stopping the run.

Barber has said he wants Barkley to break all his records. Well, the rookie has already claimed one of Tiki’s Giants marks, and if he lives up to his immense potential, he’ll have a few more by the time he calls time on his career.
