New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley is still recovering from a serious knee injury suffered last season. Barkley is trying to make it back for Week 1, but if that doesn't happen, he's hoping to return no later than Week 3.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has the details on Barkley's timetable:

Saquon Barkley got injured in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears in 2020 and missed the rest of the season. The Giants wound up going 6-10 and missing the playoffs, with the Washington Football Team squeaking out the NFC East crown with a 7-10 record.

The Giants star was coming off two prolific seasons to start his NFL career, so this was a massive setback for the youngster. The running back ran for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie while also catching 91 passes for 721 yards and four scores. He was named to the Pro Bowl that season.

Barkley slipped a little in 2019, going for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns on the ground and catching 52 passes for 438 yards and two scores through the air. He only played 13 games in Year 2 after appearing in all 16 games in 2018.

Saquon Barkley is now hoping he can come back better than ever and help New York get back to the playoffs. The Giants start their 2021 season at home against the Denver Broncos. New York then travels to the nation's capital to face Washington in Week 2 before hosting the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.
