The New York Giants went all in by taking former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. Now the team is doing what it can to surround him with as many positive influences as possible.

They will be starting with safety Landon Collins' second annual Celebrity Softball Game. Barkley will be joined by a bevy of former notable running backs such as Tiki Barber, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Brandon Jacobs.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Jacobs says he wishes he had the same opportunity when starting his career.

“This is an opportunity I wish I had when I was a rookie,” said Jacobs, “Stay focused. Stay out of the streets. Be really careful who you let close to you,” Jacobs said. “That’s the only advice I have for him. The football will come natural.”

The Giants boasted one of the most talented backfields in the league at one point. Furthermore, each of the players as mentioned above knows what it takes to attain both individual and team success with the Giants. Barkley now has an opportunity to become the next bonafide workhorse in New York.

There is no question that the rookie is arguably more talented than his predecessors. That said, his potential as a workhorse back is something that the Giants have not had in quite awhile. As a result, it appears New York will be doing what it can to make sure Barkley gets off on the right foot in the 2018 NFL season.
