The New York Giants are anticipating running back Saquon Barkley's return to the starting lineup against the Philadelphia Eagles after being listed as questionable with an ankle injury. The star is still trying to get back to his normal self, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

After a dynamic and outstanding rookie season back in 2018, the former Pro-Bowler has struggled to find his past self. Health has been a major concern for Barkley as well, with the running back missing most of the 2020 season with an ACL tear.

Barkley also had an ankle injury in Week 5 of the 2021 season, and has been dealing with it ever since. Though he played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, the 24 year old is still not at 100%. The Giants believe that this setback will be something he faces the rest of the year. The former second overall pick has rushed for just 220 yards and two touchdowns, a polar opposite of his achievements in his first season.

This year, the Giants have also been lackluster overall. They are currently 3-7, sitting at the bottom of the NFC East, and the team's playoff hopes are quickly diminishing. After a promising 2020 season where New York went 6-10, the organization believed that they could make a push this year, but that certainly has not been the case. At this point, Giants should look to take it game by game, with the Philadelphia Eagles coming first. Beating one of their division rivals could possibly spark a better second half of the season for the team.
