The New York Giants recently received some good news when star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. promised to be in attendance for training camp. However, there has been little indication about both sides agreeing to a new lucrative contract extension any time soon.

So despite Beckham's public declaration to attend training camp, he may still opt to hold out if the lack of progress in his contract talks continues, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY:

If there are no talks at all or no movement on the financial details, a summer holdout is definitely on the table, according to a source. And if the Giants get testy again, the way they did in March when they oddly and publicly flirted with the idea of trading him and refused to say he'd even be on their team in 2018, it might instantly become a reality.

It is hard to decipher whether or not Beckham will be a man of his word and show up without a neal deal in place. With over a month left until training camp, both sides will have plenty of time to potentially work out a deal before then. Unfortunately, their recent lack of progress is hardly a good sign of things to come.

Beckham's desire to be the highest-paid wideout in the league will come at a steep price. New York would need to give him a deal worth more than $17 million annually, which is currently what Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is making. Meanwhile, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones is looking for a similar contract extension. That said, it will be interesting to see which player potentially sets the market first.

When healthy, Beckham is considered the most dynamic playmaker in the NFL. Despite the injury that shortened his 2017 campaign, he has done more than enough to garner a monster deal considering his star power alone.
