Nothing like a little drama to make the offseason more interesting, right? The New York Giants have certainly been surrounded by plenty of it as the future of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. appears to be in question.

It seems unlikely that the Giants would trade their best offensive weapon. But NFL insider Adam Schefter said recently during an appearance on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast the possibility of a trade is “very real, absolutely real.”

Schefter eventually stated that he was “guessing” that the Giants were thinking of trading Beckham Jr. But he qualified the comment by describing it like an educated guess. He made it with the help of information he’s been told and his own inferences.

The Draft is supposedly a deadline of sorts.

Rumor has it that the Giants want two first-round draft picks for Beckham Jr. It is a high price to pay. But Odell Beckham Jr. is only 25 and has been ridiculously productive in the first few years of his career. Picking him up and giving up two first rounders would essentially be mortgaging the future. But if it meant having a chance to win the Super Bowl in the interim is it worth it?

Many teams are probably thinking “yes.”  But it is still hard to pull the trigger on a trade like that— and he’s injured! You don’t know if he is going to be the same player. Then there will be his contract. Whoever acquires him will need to be prepared to pay him $17-19 million a season.

It sounds crazy on both sides of the potential deal. But it could also be a game-changer.
