The Memphis Grizzlies got off to a surprisingly impressive start this season, but they have been free-falling of late, and Wednesday night's loss against the Detroit Pistons was the latest example of that.

After the loss, Grizzlies coach J.B. Bickerstaff was 30 minutes late to his postgame press conference, signifying that there was a quite a long meeting between him and his players.

Bickerstaff confirmed as much to reporters, but would not give much detail, only saying that he had a “conversation that needed to be had” with his team:

Memphis scored just 39 points in the second half of the home loss to the Pistons, marking its third consecutive loss overall. The Grizzlies also lost on the road against the Houston Rockets on New Year's Eve, and last Saturday, they blew a 19-point lead in a home defeat to the Boston Celtics.

Bickerstaff's group actually started the season 12-5, surprising many who expected Memphis to be a surefire lottery team coming into the year. However, since then, the Grizzlies have gone just 6-14. More recently, they have lost 10 of their last 13 games, which is more of what people expected from Memphis coming into the season.

The Grizzlies missed the playoffs last year for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, winning just 22 games as they dealt with injuries and poor performance across the board throughout the season.

Bickerstaff took over 20 games into last year, as Memphis fired David Fizdale—now the head coach of the New York Knicks—after a 7-12 start.

The Grizzlies are now just 18-19 on the season overall.
