The last time Ja Morant faced the Los Angeles Lakers, the Memphis Grizzlies left the game with a loss. In spite of the defeat, Morant had a sterling performance, scoring 40 points to go along with 10 assists, three steals, and five 3-pointers. It was a sign of things to come for Memphis, and it left a mark on David Fizdale's memory.

Prior to the Lakers' road matchup against the Grizzlies, Fizdale had this to say about the electrifying point guard, via Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian.

“You are talking about one of the best players in this league. Period. PERIOD. The guy – I don’t know another way to put it – is a superstar. I don’t see anyone that has had a true answer for the guy.”

If it comes from Coach Fiz, you have to take it for data.

Morant is spearheading the Grizzlies' NextGen movement with a breakout campaign thus far. In 23 games, the second overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft holds averages of 23.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.5 steals.

As of writing, the Grizzlies own the Western Conference's fourth seed by virtue of their 21-14 win-loss record. When Morant missed a boatload of games due to an injury, his teammates were able to compensate to end up with an 11-2 record sans their top scorer.

Since returning, the Grizzlies' undisputed leader has picked up where he left off. Over the last four games, Ja Morant norms 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. The Lakers will have their hands full as they try to contain this budding superstar in Memphis.
