The Memphis Grizzlies got each other's backs. Star guard Ja Morant clapped back at Kendrick Perkins after the latter's hot take about Grizzlies teammate Desmond Bane.

It all started when Duke guard Trevor Keels was drafted No. 42 overall by the New York Knicks. After that, Perkins described Keels β€” an 18-year-old 6'5 guard out of Clinton, Maryland β€” as a β€œball of muscle.” He had a reputation for having tremendous upper body strength and drew more pronounced comparisons to someone like Eric Bledsoe.

Perkins, however, took everyone by surprise by comparing Keels to Bane.

Bane, of course, is no slouch. At 6'6, he approximates the size of Keels, and Bane has surely put in a lot of time in the gym. Other than that, however, they don't share much else.

Bane has made a name for himself as an explosive scorer and reliable shooter for the Grizzlies. Keels, meanwhile, is known more for his defense and finishing at the basket.

As expected, the reactions to Perkins' hot take were quick and scorching.

β€œMe [and] Trevor Keels got [a] similar game???” Bane tweeted in response to Perkins.

β€œYeah have you watched yourself lately?! Stay humble youngin,” Perkins replied.

It was a comedic exchange, which got even more interesting when Ja Morant entered the picture.

β€œπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ perk drunk,” tweeted Morant.

There were comparisons to Santa Claus, with Perkins referencing being the β€œone to run up that chimney.” That means he's ready for all the smoke.

And there might be more to come as Grizzlies fans continue to chime in.

Perkins, of course, is known doe being a hot-take merchant, and having him make player comparisons at this year's NBA Draft provided fertile ground for interesting reactions all around.
